Aqueduct suicide for Paul Brindley over porn case

An IT consultant jumped to his death from an aqueduct after being remanded on bail on child porn charges.

A coroner recorded a verdict of suicide and said he had no doubt Paul Brindley, 44, of Marford near Wrexham wanted to avoid more shame on his family.

He killed himself at the 116ft (35m) high Pontcysyllte aqueduct four days after being released from custody.

Mr Brindley had been charged with 12 offences, while 2,000 further images were later found on his computer.

The inquest heard he worked for various major companies in the UK and last year started working in Dubai.

But Mr Brindley, who was divorced, was suspected of possessing and distributing indecent material.

He was arrested on his return from Dubai on suspicion of having indecent images of children on his computer, and was charged with 12 offences.

The inquest heard after he was bailed in June a further 2,000 images were found, some of the worst category imaginable.

An expert analysis of the computer showed that 400 images had been distributed.

He was due to be re-interviewed by police but killed himself before it could take place.

Acting North East Wales Coroner John Gittins recorded a suicide verdict and said he was no doubt he had done so to avoid further shame to his family.

The inquest at Flint heard that a suicide note had been found inside his Mitsubishi Shogun which was found close to the aqueduct.
