Children's charity the NCH claims that more than a third of parents say that they don't monitor or control their child's online activities. The government's own Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center, meanwhile, says that a third of children have received unwanted sexual contact online or by text message.

Parents would do well to remember, however, that such prohibition rarely works forever.
