Ex-YMCA Chief Angus Henderson, spared jail because he had cancer, dies aged 59

THE DISGRACED former chief executive of Halifax YMCA has died at 59.
Last month Angus Henderson admitted possessing child pornography.

A court heard he had nearly 600 indecent images of children as young as five.

He was spared jail after revealing he had cancer and only months to live.

A spokesman for Halifax branch of the YMCA today confirmed he had died but refused to comment further.

Mr Henderson, who worked for the YMCA in Crossley Street, pleaded guilty last month to possessing indecent images after they were found on computers and CDs seized from work and at his Barnsley home.

The married father-of-two had worked with children as young as four for nearly three years before stepping down after his arrest in 2007.

He had also worked with the Street Angels and appeared in the YMCA pantomime.

At Leeds Crown Court, he was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He was ordered to sign a sexual prevention order and banned from working with children.

A private family cremation will take place on Wednesday, followed by a thanksgiving service next Monday.
