Paedophile Scout leader Stuart Harris Jailed after Fleeing to New York

A scout leader who fled to New York after he was arrested for sex offences has been jailed indefinitely after admitting he sexually assaulted boys.

Stuart Harris used a false identity to get a job looking after young children for an American family before British police and the FBI brought him back.

Harris, 28, of Swansea, admitted five charges of sexually assaulting five boys under the age of 13.

The judge at Swansea Crown Court said Harris was a "dangerous offender".

Harris also admitted 20 offences of making indecent images of children and possessing 1,935 indecent images of children.

None of his victims was in his scout troop.

Prosecutor Janet Gedrych said: "Harris had taken indecent photographs of some of his young victims after molesting them.

"He was also in possession of a large number of other child porn pictures downloaded from the internet.

"When he was arrested last year he denied any wrong-doing and was released on bail.

"But he disappeared and, using a false identity, he gained employment as a nanny for a family with young children in New York."

Judge Patrick Curran QC jailed Harris indefinitely for the public's protection.

He will serve a minimum of three years in prison before he will be eligible to apply for release.
