Doctor Michael Jones jailed for child porn offences

A doctor from Maidenhead has been jailed for distributing child porn.

Michael Jones, 29, was caught with 88 indecent images after unknowingly sending several to an undercover FBI officer.

The Switchback Road resident appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday and was sentenced to 16 months in prison and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He had pleaded guilty to two charges of distributing indecent images and 12 of making indecent images, relating to the downloading of porn.

Jones, who worked at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, had sent the undercover officer five video files showing children being sexually abused, four of them involving children under five-years-old, engaged in sexual activity with adults.
Police tracked down the address to Dr Michael Jones, who was then living with his parents in Knowsley, Liverpool.

Sarah Phelan, defending, said Jones, who resigned after his arrest, has no previous convictions.
"He now appreciates how serious his offending was.
"He co-operated with the police and has had the matter hanging over him for three years and made a serious attempt on his life."

In sentencing Jones, Judge John Phipps said: "These images are each and every one an image of an exploited, abused and damaged child. At the time you were a doctor at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital," he said.

"Quite what possessed you to get involved with this sort of material is beyond me."
