Internet safety information launched by BECTA

New training material is to be issued to teachers at schools and colleges around the country by Becta.

And the government's technology in education agency has also launched an improved system to help educational institutions determine which internet service provider or filtering product to use to enhance their internet connections.

These two new initiatives have been unveiled to mark Safer Internet Day, the body has said.

The new literature will serve to help schools and colleges encourage sensible and responsible use of the internet for education and learning through an 'acceptable use policy'.

"We hope teachers, lecturers and all schools staff will refer to this new material and that it assists them in developing strategies that offer safe and secure technology environments for learners," stated Becta chief executive Stephen Crowne.

This year teachers who make the most of technology in the classroom could be nominated to a new teaching award, which is being sponsored by the government agency.
