Paedophile David Winder Found Dead in Prison

A Paedophile has died after he was found with head injuries in his prison cell.

David Winder, a prisoner at HMP Wymott in Leyland, died at Royal Preston Hospital on Sunday after a fellow prisoner discovered him
collapsed in his cell.

The 48-year-old, from Falkirk Avenue, Bispham, had suffered a broken jaw and was bleeding from his head.

CCTV within the prison could not confirm what had happened and so police were called.

Investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem, however the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A scan at hospital showed Winder had brain cancer.

It was also known the prisoner - jailed for four years in July after he downloaded more than 2,500 child porn images - had been treated with antibiotics after complaining of feeling ill for a number of weeks.
Winder's family has been informed.

A police spokesman said: "A scan at hospital showed he was suffering cancer of the brain. He died later that day in hospital. Inquiries are ongoing and an inquest will be held in due course."

Winder, an electrician, had a string of convictions for sex offences against children.

In 2000 he was sentenced to five years behind bars for five offences of indecently assaulting a female and one of taking indecent photographs.

He was still on the Sex Offenders Register when he committed his latest crimes, all relating to the possession of indecent images of children.

He was found with sick pictures and video clips showing children being abused when police raided his home. A total of 2,672 such images and seven video clips were discovered, 24 of them in the most serious
category.

When interviewed by police Winder said: "I feel deeply ashamed and upset about the whole matter."

Winder pleaded guilty to a total of 18 counts of making indecent photographs.
