Browser Settings

There are many features within the Browser Settings Page. This page will explain each feature so you have more of an understanding of them and therefore be able to utilise them to their full potential. Each section has a tickbox asking if you want to apply any of these rules to all users on the computer.

Alerts:
You can be sent an alert whenever an Internet Browser and/or whenever a web page is accessed that triggers a violation. These alerts will be sent to the email address(es) and mobile(s) in the PC Settings Page.

On Violation:
When an attempt to access a violated web page is seen, you have 3 options for ways in which Sentry Parental Controls can control this access:
1) Show Stealth Access Denied Message - this disables any access to the page and outputs an error message.
2) Take Screenshot - this enables access to the site but takes a screenshot (a picture of what you would see if you were standing behind your child at the computer, also known as a printscreen) so that you can view them within the Browser Logs Page.
3) Take No Action - this option will allow access to all web sites and behave as though there are no controls on the computer. However, you will still receive an alert if it is enabled above.

Keyword Catgories:
You can tick or untick certain categories that you want to monitor and/or block. Words and phrases within each category are chosen by Sentry Parental Controls and are kept confidential to the public. These categories are:

Adult/Mature
Enticement
Gambling
Profanity
Illicit Drug Use
Alcohol Use

You can allow certain words that are within any of these lists by adding them to the Allowed Keywords List....

Custom Keywords List:
You can add any keywords (words or phrases) to the Allow or Block Lists. This will override any box that may be ticked or unticked in the keyword categories. For example, the word "sex" will be listed within the Adult/Mature category, however, this word may be interpreted in different ways such as someone's gender. Adding this word to the Allow List will allow access any web page with this word included but still block any other word in the Adult/Mature category.
This works in the same way with the Block List.

URL List:
This section works in the same way as the Keyword List. You can add a URL to the list by domain (who whole web site) or just one web page within the domain. This can be useful in ways such as that you can allow access to facebook.com but not someone's profile within the site (e.g. www.facebook.com/profile.php?profile=12345).
Another example is that, again using the word "sex" as an example, you may find that your child cannot access the BBC News web site because it contains the word "sex" somewhere on the page, probably referring to a news article. You can add the URL bbc.co.uk, or news.bbc.co.uk knowing that this site is a safe place for your child to visit.
